The University of Scranton and Pennsylvania American Water Sponsor Environmental Projects for NEPA Students
The University of Scranton and Pennsylvania American Water will sponsor an environmental art and essay exhibition for area students during Earth Week activities planned in April. Submissions will be showcased and participants acknowledged at a reception on Thursday, April 25, from 6 to 9 p.m., on the fourth floor of the DeNaples Center on the University’s campus. The environmental film “The Lorax” will also be shown at the event, which is free of charge and open to the public.
The showcase will include the artwork submitted by area students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades participating in Pennsylvania American Water’s 11th annual Protect Our Watersheds Art Contest. The artwork submitted through the contest will reflect positive messages about why watersheds are valuable and ways protect them. Submissions must be sent to 800 W. Hersheypark Drive, Hershey, Penna., 17033, by the March 29 deadline.
Area students in grades 7 to 12 can submit essays that address the theme “Leaving Our Planet Better Than We Found it.” Seventh and eighth grade student essays must be between 200 and 400 words. Students in grades 9 to 12 must submit essays between 300 and 500 words. All essays must address a current environmental threat, explain the impact of the threat, and articulate a reasonable plan of action to address the concern.
